Gal Meets Glam's Julia Engel on Collaborating in Style

One of the very best parts of collaborating with Gal Meets Glam Collection has been working with its founder Julia Engel. As hardworking and kind as she is stylish, she's been invested in designing amazing shoes that blend style and sensibility from day one.

Through both our fall and spring collections, we've worked closely with the Charleston-based entrepreneur. We've admired how she's built her personal following into a full lifestyle brand and embraced the confluence of work and motherhood (while still inspiring us with pitch-perfect ensembles).

Read our conversation below for more on our collaboration, her ideal travel shoe, and why our partnership has been so successful.

When we spoke before launching our fall collaboration, you mentioned wanting to see Gal Meets Glam Collection come to life from head to (literal) toe. How exciting was it to see that dream become reality?

Seeing women all over the world in head-to-toe GMGC was incredible. The Margaux shoes from our collaboration paired so perfectly with our fall Gal Meets Glam Collection pieces; I loved knowing we were making fall dressing effortless for our customers by providing both apparel and footwear.

What inspired the new collection?

Spring was inspired by the shoes I reach for most often this time of year. I was thrilled that Margaux was up for creating some brand new silhouettes, bringing their signature quality, fit, and comfort level to the espadrille and mule styles I love.

This was your second time collaborating with us—did it feel any different on the sophomore run?

Knowing how much the fall collection resonated with our customers, we went into it this time with an added sense of excitement and anticipation. It inspired us to bring some bolder new prints and styles to life that I hope everyone will love as much as we do. We went into this second round knowing that our customers want those special pieces they can’t find elsewhere.

Espadrilles have become somewhat of a signature for you. What is it about them that you love so much?

I fell in love with espadrilles a few years ago when our frequent travels made comfortable, but attractive, shoes a top priority. Ever since, they’ve been staples of my spring and summer wardrobe—I own them in practically every color! The raffia wedges add height and a touch of natural texture to any outfit, while the ankle ties create such a feminine look that elongates the legs and pairs well with dresses or denim. I’ve found them to be some of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I own.

The toile we use on The Pointe is so unique for accessories. How do you plan on wearing them?

Toile prints bring a romantic, slightly vintage-inspired feel to any outfit. This season, I’ll be pairing our toile Pointe flats with both casual looks, like a white blouse and a relaxed pair of jeans, or a dressier outfit like a cotton midi shirt dress with a headband.

Our last interview was right around the time you had your baby girl (congrats, again!). Have the clothing and shoes you reach for changed since then?

Life as a working mother is full, busy, and incredibly rewarding. Since my time feels more precious than ever, I’ve been prioritizing versatility. Wearing an outfit that is both comfortable and put together, but also functional for home, office, meetings, and more helps me stay present throughout the day, no matter how many times I’m switching gears.
