The Story Behind Our Collaboration with Gal Meets Glam

2019-10-01

We've been excited about our collaboration with Julia Engel and Gal Meets Glam Collection since conversations first started nearly a year ago. To celebrate it officially launching on Monday, we wanted to share a little bit of the backstory with all of you.

It's been in the works since last January.

Julia had been a fan of the brand for awhile (we love spotting her in Margaux), and her penchant for classic, sophisticated pieces has always resonated with our aesthetic. After meeting in person, it was obvious that there was potential for something.

A breakfast date really got things started.

We met Julia and her husband Thomas at Cafe Cluny, one of our favorite spots for coffee and breakfast near our store in the West Village, and started discussing the possibility of collaborating. We've worked with fashion designers and artists before, but never an influencer with such a large and devoted following. Julia's constantly communicating with her readers, so she immediately could vocalize what they would want from a potential collection.

Everything was a true collaboration.

From the outset, this process has truly been collaborative. The four silhouettes we wanted to work with were selected first: We knew what our gaux girls loved wearing in the fall, and Julia identified what the Gal Meets Glam Collection shopper would respond to.

Then, each style became a canvas for a moment or feeling we wanted to express. We all wanted to include a fabric from the Gal Meets Glam Collection and gravitated toward the pink-infused tweed Julia had used for a jacket. The bow on the The Boot was an idea Julia came up with that we immediately loved.
